We're inspired by the Women's World Cup

We're super excited for the Women’s World Cup that’s taking place this Summer, with England’s first game against Haiti on Saturday 22nd July.  

After such a strong performance by the England Women’s team in the Euros last year, bagging the win, we know it's going to be great to watch the Lionesses. 

Although their 30-game winning streak was broken by the Australians earlier this year, this makes for an interesting tournament – and perhaps with a few surprises along the way!  

For us it’s so inspiring to have female football players as positive role models, and so important for young people to have someone who they can relate to, and that encourages their aspirations. 

Seeing the positive attitudes of people like Leah Williamson and Beth Mead, who aren't part of the squad due to injury, and Nikita Parris, who didn't get picked for the team, has been motivational for our young people who can't always participate in our activities but still want to come along and do as much as they can. 

In the last 12 months, 48% of our participations were female, and we've found that the rise in popularity of women's sports has given young girls a new group of inspiring women to look up to.

Whether you’re a sports lover or not, international tournaments like this really rally communities and unite people.

Football is a beautiful game, no matter whether it’s your first time kicking a football or whether you’re a retired Women’s Super League legend – it teaches us to win and lose graciously, it teaches determination and discipline, there’s nothing else quite like it! 

Nelson Mandela captured this perfectly when he said ‘Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand.’
